Episode 3: Making Your Wish List

Once you have your agent and your lender in place, you are ready to start shopping the market. Before you can really get going on the market, it is important to think about what you are looking for in your next home. Taking time before looking at homes to really decide what you are looking for will make the whole process much more simple and stress-free for you.

When beginning your search for your next home, start with the big criteria. What city do you want to live in? Is there a neighborhood or school district that you are particularly attached to? Does a certain city or neighborhood have specific amenities you want: close to water, a golf course, a short commute to work? This will narrow down your search within a particular location, so now you can start thinking about the actual house.

You should also think about what type of house you are looking for, early on in the process. Are you looking for a single-family home, a townhouse, or a condo? Knowing how many bedrooms and bathrooms you want and need is very important as well. Knowing whether you want a one or two-story home, a big or small yard, a pool, and the size of the garage will go a long way towards helping you and your agent find you your dream home.

Some of the more specific home features that will really help refine your search further are if you want a guest bedroom down, a study, a media room, and an HOA.

Talk to your agent if there are any other specific features to your dream home that are a must, but having a clear idea on these will help you have a clean, complication free search!
