Common Home Buyer Mistakes

We’ve had the good fortune of being part of many real estate transactions. Unfortunately, buyers tend to make the same mistakes again and again. In this video blog, we share with you some of the most common mistakes buyers make when they approach their transaction.

1. Working with an inexperienced agent

Who you work with matters!  Buying a home is a big, important decision – and it’s also one that people make only a few times in their life.  Buyers should work with an expert who has experience who can help them navigate the home-buying journey.  The sad reality is that it’s pretty easy to get a real estate license; it’s not as easy to become an expert.  Choose an agent who has experience with both buyers and sellers and who can bring those perspectives into your negotiation.

2. Waiting too long to get pre-approved.

It is so fun to go out and start looking at beautiful homes, but many times buyer get too far into their search without consulting with a lender.  You will be able to shop more confidently and be prepared to make an offer on a home you love if you have a pre-approval in hand.   Many buyers assume that because they have a great credit score, it will be easy to get a mortgage.  That’s not always the case as mortgage underwriting has many tedious details.  Spare yourself the agony of missing out on your dream home by speaking to a lender before you get real serious about your home search.

3. Getting advice from the wrong people

Many people own a home and it’s easy to hear about their experience buying a house. Except people buy homes so infrequently that they are often out of touch with current market realities.  Real estate markets are very local and real estate laws are, too.  Trust the judgment of your family in California for picking the right house for your lifestyle.  Rely on a good buyer’s agent to help navigate the purchase of your home.

We want your home purchase to be a fun, enjoyable process.  We’ll help you steer clear of these mistakes and find your place with ease.
